Ollie Case

Sarnia, Ontario native and resident Ollie Case is a concert organist, a certified piano tuner and technician, and a licensed real estate broker. A professional musician (inspired, the back cover states, by Earl Grant) for 41 years now, he's won a ton of contests and awards, played in over 300 cities throughout Canada, the United States, Germany, England and Japan, performed at innumerable weddings, conferences, banquets and dances, and cut a few albums. My dad says he was also the organist who played the Polysar (my dad's former employer) Christmas parties when I was a kid.

Unfortunately, the first 50 seconds or so of "Model 'A' Reggae" (a groovy little instrumental credited to "Peake-McCreary") are pretty scratched up. The album as a whole was recorded at NCN Productions in London, Ontario by engineer Bruce A. Cooper.

This album finds Case paired with a drummer named Johnny Bond. I haven't been able to track down much of anything about Mr. Bond, but there are a few photos of him performing at the 2006 CanAm Jazz Festival in Sarnia here.

Electromotion! was recorded at The Mercey Brothers Studio in Elmira, Ontario, and produced by Case, Paul David Mercey and Rob Asselstine. "You Are The Sunshine Of My Life" is a decent version of the Stevie Wonder hit, and "Opus One" is a sprightly old pop tune, but the best song (by a mile) on this LP is the cover of "Baby Face." Normally I wouldn't recommend "Baby Face" to anyone, but after a fairly straightforward opening Case and Bond transform the corny old vaudeville standard into a funky percussion workout with some space-funk keyboard thrown in for good measure; seriously, Bond just about loses his shit during the drum solo that dominates this track.
