Lucien Hetu

This album struck me as interesting for its quite inexpensive packaging, to be honest. The cover is as seen above, but the back cover it totally blank. The album was a deal at the time of its release, at only $1.98, brought to you by the good folks at Fleur de Lys Records.

This was an early album (perhaps his first?) by Mr. Hetu (1926-1990), who was one of many popular Hammond Organ players in the 50s-70s. He released dozens of albums for a variety of labels, including several themed albums like Hawaiian music, South American music, etc. All delivered via his Hammond, and occasionally with his own singing. He even produced sets like a 1978 6-LP collection of dance music for Reader's Digest.

This LP, "12 Grands Succes Canadiens" keeps things pretty simple. La Parente is a groovy dance number (with an intro reminiscent of early Devo records). Parc Lafontaine brings to mind an image of a carnival, while Sur L'Perron is much more airy and melancholy, and features a soft acoustic guitar.
