Angele Arsenault

I found this record recently, as usual not knowing exactly who it was, and clearly oblivious to how well-known she is. Ms. Arsenault went from being one of 14 Arsenault kids in small-town PEI (born in 1943), to becoming a vastly well-known English and French language singer/songwriter, and eventually becoming a Member of the Order of Canada in 2003. Along the way, she had at least one triple-platinum album (1977'sLibre), and hosted several programs on TVOntario .

This LP, Premiere, is her first record from 1974 on Trans-Canada Records (based in Montreal). It has a big folk feel, with some really beautiful instrumentation backing her. Produced by Lise Aubut, the record is very warm, and covers a lot of territory, from country to folk to pop.

L'Homme et la Femme is a bit old-school country, with some great French near-rapping.
Je Veux Vivre au Soleil is a warm, gentle ballad with some stunning vocal work.

She left the music world for many years, returning with another popular album in 1994, but has been quiet musically ever since. According to this article, she was last known to still be living in PEI.
