Not much information out there on the web about Mr. Conners, but the LP itself provides a few clues. This album, recorded in Ottawa in April 1980, features Jim Conners on fiddle, along with a great backup band: George McKay (drums), Merv Wilson (banjo and dobro), Bob Sally (bass), Bob Tierney (guitar) and Will Arsenault (guitar). The boys rip through a series of "fiddle favourites" including a nice working of Ned Landry's Hillbilly Calypso (a favourite around here at itcamefromcanada.com).
I did find this YouTube video, and I can safely bet that it's the same Big Jim Conners (I'm not sure how many fiddlers out there would have the same name).

Another copy of this LP was loaned to me by Bob Larsen of Manotick, Ontario, who has known Jim and Merv Wilson for decades. His copy has this amusing autograph that I thought we should share:
In case you have trouble reading this, it says From someone who knows nothing, to someone who knows less...
Update - December 10, 2009:
I received an email from Tom Conners, Big Jim's son, telling me that Big Jim passed away. Here's the note:
