John Arpin

by Kevin McGowan 20. November 2008 07:30

John Arpin is one of Canada's better known pianists. He has played with everyone from Peter Appleyard to Henry Cuesta and Maureen Forrester. In fact, one of his songs, Jogging Along, was used as the theme for CBC Radio's Morningside .

Born in Port McNicoll, Ontario, John Arpin graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Music at the age of 16, and then became very active in the Toronto music scene. To date, he has had countless performances and over 60 albums, his most recent of which can be purchased at his website .

John had a lot of help on this album: Art Devillier on guitar, Neville Barnes on electric guitar and banjo, Paul Fortier on bass, Willie Cantu on drums, Bill Richards/Gerard Kantarjian/Isidor Desser on violins, Walter Bibiak on viola, and Ron Laurie on cello.

Approaching Lavender is a Gordon Lightfoot song, given here a lovely treatment
Bachelor Man is an original John Arpin composition, and is a flowy romantic number with a bit of jazzy drumming to mix it up
Butterfingers is some old-school Ragtime, a style for which Mr. Arpin has received many awards.
