The Bells were a country-ish, folk-ish, rock-ish group from Montreal (and certainly not these guys), who released these two albums in 1971. The group seems to have been more of a launching ground for its various members. They went through a pile of lineup changes throughout their short career. However, they still managed to have a good run, featuring a few hit singles, including their biggest: "Moody Manitoba Morning". You can't get much more Canadian than that, now can ya?
The first, "Love, Luck, and Lollipops" is a good mix of original songs and covers (including a groovy medley of Kris Kristofferson songs).
The second LP I found, called Stay Awhile, was originally titled "Fly, Little White Dove, Fly"....but the single "Stay Awhile" became such a big hit, the album was rereleased with a new title to capitalize on the song's popularity.
The band released a few more albums, with its still-changing lineup through the mid 70s, but eventually called it quits as a unit. As of 2003, The Bells have occasionally reformed for concerts now and again near their homes (they've played Kingston, Brockville, and Port Hope). But the members are all still maintaining their own interests.
Cliff Edwards (vocals, guitar) for example, now runs MacNeil's Landing restaurant in Gananoque.
We can't offer any MP3 samples of The Bells on this site. But if you'd like to pick up a copy of their "Best Of" CD from Universal Music, click here to check it out.
