De Verne Mullen/Paul Mullen/The Mullen Family

by Kevin McGowan 26. November 2008 14:20

My only source of information about Mr. Mullen is the LP itself, which has ample liner notes:

De Verne H. Mullen requires no introduction to the many thousands who have enjoyed his fine voice during personal appearances throughout Canada and parts of the USA.

He is a song evangelist, aiding churches of all denominations who may arrange for his services. His musical career started at the age of 5 years as a church soloist. though he now travels widely, some achievements in his native province of New Brunswick include being first place winner of a NB Competitive Musical Festival; four years featured artists in Handel's Messiah with Saint Andrew's Choir, Saint John; and a former musical director of the family Alter Hour. he received tuition under Doctor Harry Dunlop. shortly after commencing a business career he felt called upon to devote his full time and energy to song evangelism.

In 1950, he came to the attention of Tip Top Records who make a specialty of bringing deserving Canadian talent to the public's attention. during the last 8 years his many releases on 10" 78rpm records mave met with great success, prompting a gropu of the old and new contained herein.

In this collection fo solos, duets with his brother Paul, and a family quartet which includes the late Mr. and Mrs. Mullen, you should find enjoyment in the renditions of favourite sacred selections.

Paul Mullen joins with brother De Verne in the vocal and instrumental duets in this recording. He is, however, an accomplished accordionist, pianist, and organist in his own right. Several of the selections contained herein feature Paul at the organ as accompanist.

he has spent many years in song evangelistic work and his personal appearences from coast to coast have met with warm response. As with De Vern, arrangements for his services must be made many months in advance and the number of repeat engagements vouch for the manner in which he is always received.

At The Foot of that Old Rugged Cross (a duet with the two brothers)
