This is an excellent kids album, by one of Canada's premiere children's performers. Released in 1979 (and sadly not available on CD), I can't get over how cool it is. This is kids music that is quite urbane, and deceptively simple. The rhythms are all bouncy, and the vocals have that 70s adult contemporary vibe (think James Taylor or Jim Croce) with appropriate and hilarious kid backup vocals.
There is a great history of Mr. McManus here. He worked for a computer company is Washington in the late 60s, but moved to Canada to be a staff writer at Arc Records in Toronto in 1968. He was a working songwriter for many years, and sent a few demo's to Raffi's label. Go figure, they loved it and released this LP, Scrubadub U a year later. He went on to work with well-known children's performer such as Mr. Dressup Ernie Coombs and Fred Penner .
