Michele Richard

(Please check her home page here!)

The Twist was more than just a dance in the 1960s, it was an absolute phenomenon. There are probably hundreds of songs from the era with the word "twist" in the title, all of which are repeating to you how much fun it is to do the dance Chubby Checker made famous.

Michele Richard must have been about 16 when this album was recorded. It features a whole series of Twist-related songs on this LP, which in case you weren't quite clear on the concept, is called "Twist." If you aren't quite sure how to do it, there are photographic instructions on the back cover to help you out.

Ms. Richard went on to record about 20 LPs, mostly on the Trans-Canada label. This album is on Meteor Records, which was also out of Montreal, I believe. She also went on to host a few TV shows, like 'Zoom en liberté' on the CBC.

You can see all sorts of clips of her singing on YouTube (here, here, and here for example). She had a great voice, and the teen-pop aspects of this album are really catchy and fun.

Guitar Boogie Twist is actually an instrumental track
Mon Ami Le Roi Du Twist has some sweet sax and great male back-up vocals
Viens Danser Le Twist is a French-language cover of "Let's Twist Again"

Another collection of pop tunes from Michele Richard. This is a grab bag of reworked and rewritten 50s and 60s pop songs for the Quebec audience. This album isn't as fun as the Twist record listed above, but it's still good, and a few of the tracks are still available on CD through her website.
