Mouffe

by beau 2. December 2008 06:12
Who is Mouffe? A pseudonym for Claudine Monfette, that's who. Born in Montreal in 1947, Monfette attended the National Theatre School of Canada, where she met Robert Charlebois and became his muse. After co-writing much of his earliest material, the two artists got married and Monfette acted in the odd film here and there. Towards the end of the '70's, Monfette and Charlebois separated...and that's about all I can provide in terms of autobiographical detail for Monfette. If you can read French, this article appears to be a pretty good summary of her life and times.

"Madame Bertrand" (music by Charlebois, lyrics by Mouffe) is a good-natured duet by both singers with an old-fashioned folk music feel, and was one of Charlebois' biggest hits when it was released (between '67 and '71, I believe).
