This compilation is subtitled
"another collection of Canadian punk rock covers," and that's
exactly what it is. Not all of the bands doing the covering are
Canadian, but 100% of the source material is. The album's liner
notes say the tracks are a mix of "obscure gems that are near
impossible to find" and "others [that have] been tastefully reissued
and [are] readily available". "This was and is," they go on to say,
"nothing more than a light hearted romp through the past. Take it as
anything more and you take music and punk rock way too seriously.
Have fun!" Spoken like a true Canadian!
"Truck Stop Nun," originally by Da Slyme ("Newfoundland's First Punk Rock
Band"), is performed here by
The Von Zippers of Calgary.
"Tits On The Beach" - every bit as gloriously stoopid as you'd
expect a song named "Tits On The Beach" to be - was originally by
Rude Norton of Vancouver, and
is covered here by Houston's Sugar Shack. "Machine Shop,"
a catchy number that sounds kinda like X-Ray Spex, is a cover of
Windsor's The Spys (scroll down a bit)
by
Junior Varsity, also from
Houston. And "Wild West," done here by Helsinki's Teenage Kicks, was
originally by The Rock & Roll Bitches of Edmonton.
