Larry McKee and the Shandonairs

by Kevin McGowan 19. February 2009 09:02

Formed in 1968, Larry McKee and the Shandonairs recorded over a dozen LPs of Irish dancing songs. Very popular amongst the Irish dancing community across North America, they retired from the business in 1982, but still have an award in their name. According to this website, The Shandonair's Maple Leaf Belt was sponsored by The Shandonairs as a way to preserve a growing Irish Dancing culture in Canada.

At the time of this recording (1974), the band were Larry McKee on Lead Accordion, Bob Patton on 2nd accordian, George Wilson on Fiddle and Tin Whistle, Vic Jensen on piano, bass, and guitars, and Jimmy O'Neill on drums. It was produced by Jury Krytiuk at RCA Studios in Toronto.

On this LP are many traditional Irish dancing songs, but I wanted to let you hear the original tracks.
